Does that answer your question? Nope? OK, we’ll expand! And don’t worry, you’re not the first person to wonder what exactly we do. So we’re quite pleased that you’re here so that we can explain ourselves a little more clearly!
HR is all about recruiting right? Um, no, not really!
Recruitment is certainly an important part of what we do at HR Sustain, but it’s really only a part of the whole package. We like to explain that we help with the full employee life cycle. That’s everything from strategic and operational planning and measurement to recommending and implementing human resources processes and systems. As well as HR governance and compliance, we also tackle performance and workforce improvement.
Ultimately, the end goal is for us to remove the stress of people management to ensure your business thrives. If this still sounds like jargon, read on as we break this down so by the end of this post you’ll know exactly what we at HR Sustain do, and more importantly, how we can help you!
Who does HR Sustain work with? And can you help me?
Yes, we can! HR Sustain’s mission is to support small to medium sized local businesses to achieve sustainable success. As we’re based in Mt Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula, we work with many peninsula-based businesses. But we have Clients throughout greater Melbourne.
Our Clients work in various industries including not-for-profits, financial, construction, manufacturing, medical and professional services.
Our down-to-earth manner means that we approach your HR requirements with flexibility and adaptability so we can individually tailor HR processes to meet your needs.
Organisational measurement and planning
This is where many HR experts like to start when looking at HR solutions for your business. If time allows, we’ll assess your current HR strategies and/or help you to devise a strategic/business plan. If appropriate we’ll also help you develop a department or operational plan to create a framework for ongoing HR management ease and success.
Human Resources process and systems
At HR Sustain we’ll work with you to create accurate job descriptions and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for existing and potential employees. If you have roles to fill, we’ll draft the job advertisement and help you with everything you need to be able to recruit excellent employees, right through to drafting employment contracts. We can manage each stage of this process, including; short listing, interviewing potential candidates and assisting with onboarding and induction as well as managing the probationary process. Or, we’ll develop unique solutions with systems and tools that allow you to manage these processes internally. It depends on your and what will work for your business and team’s needs.
Governance and compliance
HR can be perplexing. Employment regulations are constantly changing, and it really does take a mammoth effort for small to medium business enterprises (SMEs) to keep up with legislature. Here at HR Sustain we are active members of industry-leading groups that allow us to stay up-to-date and informed with all employment governance and compliance guidelines.
We are members of the Australian Human Resource Institute, (we have CAHRI membership), and are Accredited DISC profilers. Our Principal, Lou-Ann, is an Accredited HR Coach and member of the National HR Coach Network.
That means we are part of a select group of professionals who collaborate and are trained in the HR Coaching methodology that gives us access to the latest data, analyses industry trends and everything that drives best practice specific to the Australian market.
All of the above means that we have the tools, programs and solutions to enable our Clients to improve their employer and employee satisfaction ratings, whilst taking their business performance to the next level and keeping it there.
Our greatest reward is helping business owners become confident people leaders. We recognise that developing SMEs ultimately makes our local economy and community stronger, and we’re passionate about doing all we can to make that happen.

We’ll help you develop skills matrices, coaching and professional development tools, along with performance reviews and planning. We can also advise you how to manage any under-performing issues and successfully deal with any individual or team issues.

We’re all about using a common-sense approach to maximising sustainability through great leadership, succession planning, DISC profiling and continuous improvement initiatives!
